Thomas @Project Aware – Dive Against Debris
For the second time Thomas took part in an environmental dive at Murrays Bay Beach at our doorstep. Project Aware, an environmental group that takes action both locally and globally to “save the ocean”. As much as this is a huge target, we can only start taking the little steps at home. Project Aware acts through local groups and dive shops that register with them and organise local and regional activities. Being very passionate about all things ocean, Thomas got an “Open Water Diver” Course for Christmas held by Performance Diver, a dive shop in Takapuna, another suburb on Auckland’s Northshore, and one of those dive shops that are registered with Project Aware. Twice a year they organise a “Dive against Debris”, where divers go in groups of two and collect rubbish from the oceans’ floor. It is quite amazing what these divers are coming home with. So apart from an amazing dive in Tonga, Thomas is making good use of his new skills being part of this project. Browse through the gallery below to learn a little more.
